These Terms of Service govern your use of ScrollCheckpoint, including the ScrollCheckpoint mobile application, website, and related services. By creating an account, downloading, installing, accessing, or using ScrollCheckpoint, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

Please read these Terms carefully.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, accessing, or using ScrollCheckpoint, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you should not use ScrollCheckpoint.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to create a ScrollCheckpoint account or use the service.

If you are under the age of majority in your jurisdiction, you confirm that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf where required by applicable law.

3. Account Registration

Certain ScrollCheckpoint features require an account.

You agree to provide accurate information and keep your login credentials secure. You are responsible for activity occurring through your account.

You should notify us if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.

4. How ScrollCheckpoint Works

ScrollCheckpoint is designed to help users make their use of selected apps more intentional by introducing scroll alarms, checkpoints, activities, and other intentional-use features.

Some features operate differently on Android and iOS because the two operating systems provide different system capabilities.

Android

On Android, ScrollCheckpoint may use Android's Accessibility Service when you voluntarily enable the feature and grant the required permission.

The Accessibility Service allows ScrollCheckpoint to identify when an app selected by you comes into the foreground so that ScrollCheckpoint can present its checkpoint experience.

When you attempt to access an app you have selected for ScrollCheckpoint, ScrollCheckpoint may display a checkpoint screen prompting you to set a scroll alarm before continuing.

You may choose to go to ScrollCheckpoint and configure your scroll alarm. If you do not set a scroll alarm, the checkpoint screen remains for approximately 30 seconds. After that waiting period, you may continue to the selected app without setting a scroll alarm.

The Android checkpoint is therefore designed to create a deliberate pause. It is not intended to permanently prevent you from accessing the selected app.

You may disable the relevant Accessibility Service permission through your Android device settings. Disabling the permission may prevent features that depend on foreground-app detection from functioning.

ScrollCheckpoint does not use Android Accessibility Service permission to read messages, posts, passwords, comments, direct messages, keystrokes, photos, videos, or other content displayed inside the apps you use.

iOS

On iOS, ScrollCheckpoint uses Apple's Family Controls and related Screen Time technologies, including Managed Settings, when you voluntarily authorize and configure these features.

You choose the apps or app categories that you want ScrollCheckpoint to manage through the controls provided by iOS.

When this functionality is enabled, iOS may place a system-managed shield over selected apps according to the settings you configure through ScrollCheckpoint.

For selected apps subject to the ScrollCheckpoint feature, you must have an active scroll alarm before access is made available through the ScrollCheckpoint experience.

Unlike the Android implementation described above, simply waiting for 30 seconds does not automatically provide access to a selected app on iOS. You must return to ScrollCheckpoint and set the required scroll alarm.

These restrictions apply only when you have voluntarily enabled and authorized the applicable ScrollCheckpoint functionality.

ScrollCheckpoint's iOS implementation relies on Apple's privacy-preserving Family Controls and related Screen Time frameworks. ScrollCheckpoint does not use these features to read the contents of the apps you select.

On Either Platform

ScrollCheckpoint's purpose is to create intentional checkpoints around app use. Depending on your operating system and the permissions or features you enable, this may include temporarily interrupting or restricting access to selected apps as described above.

ScrollCheckpoint does not read your private messages, posts, comments, direct messages, passwords, keystrokes, photos, videos, or other content inside third-party apps.

The availability and operation of these features may change if Apple, Google, device manufacturers, or operating-system providers modify their APIs, permissions, policies, or technical capabilities.

You remain responsible for your use of your device and third-party applications.

5. Free and Premium Plans

ScrollCheckpoint may offer free and paid features.

The free plan includes certain core ScrollCheckpoint features and may display non-personalized advertising through Google AdMob.

Premium subscriptions remove ads and may provide access to additional features.

Subscriptions and purchases are managed through RevenueCat and the applicable Apple App Store or Google Play billing system. ScrollCheckpoint does not directly receive or store your full payment card details.

Subscriptions may automatically renew unless cancelled before the applicable renewal date.

You can manage or cancel your subscription through the Apple App Store or Google Play account associated with your purchase.

Refund eligibility and processing are subject to the policies of Apple or Google, as applicable.

Features included in free or paid plans may change over time. Where required, we will provide appropriate notice of material changes.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

• use ScrollCheckpoint for unlawful purposes
• attempt to gain unauthorized access to ScrollCheckpoint systems or another user's account
• interfere with or disrupt the operation or security of the service
• reverse engineer, decompile, modify, or tamper with ScrollCheckpoint except where applicable law expressly permits such activity
• misuse device permissions or ScrollCheckpoint functionality for unlawful or unauthorized purposes
• use automated methods to abuse, overload, or interfere with the service

We may restrict or terminate access where we reasonably believe ScrollCheckpoint is being misused or these Terms have been violated.

7. Your Content

Content you intentionally create through ScrollCheckpoint, including entries you make in your Scroll Journal, remains yours.

We do not claim ownership of your personal journal content.

You are responsible for the content you submit and agree not to use ScrollCheckpoint to store or submit content that violates applicable law or the rights of others.

Our collection, storage, use, and deletion of your information are further described in our Privacy Policy.

8. Intellectual Property

ScrollCheckpoint, including its name, logo, branding, interface, designs, software, original content, and other intellectual property, is owned by ScrollCheckpoint or its applicable licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws.

Except as expressly permitted by these Terms or applicable law, you may not copy, reproduce, distribute, sell, license, modify, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from ScrollCheckpoint without authorization.

These Terms give you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, and revocable right to use ScrollCheckpoint for its intended purpose.

9. Third-Party Services

ScrollCheckpoint relies on third-party platforms and service providers to provide certain functionality.

These may include:

• Supabase: backend services, authentication, and data storage
• RevenueCat: subscription and purchase management
• Apple App Store and Google Play: application distribution and applicable payment processing
• Google AdMob: advertising on applicable free-tier accounts
• OpenAI API: generating certain checkpoint activity content
• Apple Family Controls and related Screen Time frameworks: applicable iOS functionality
• Android Accessibility Service: applicable Android functionality

Third-party services operate according to their own terms, policies, and technical requirements.

Changes made by these third parties may affect the availability or operation of certain ScrollCheckpoint features.

10. Disclaimers

ScrollCheckpoint is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law.

ScrollCheckpoint is intended as a habit, productivity, and digital wellbeing tool. It is not medical, psychological, psychiatric, therapeutic, or other professional healthcare advice.

We do not guarantee that ScrollCheckpoint will reduce your screen time, change your habits, improve productivity, or produce any particular result.

Features that depend on operating-system permissions or third-party services may occasionally fail, be delayed, behave differently across devices, or become unavailable because of circumstances outside our control.

You should not rely on ScrollCheckpoint as an emergency, safety-critical, parental supervision, or security system.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, ScrollCheckpoint and its owners, operators, employees, contractors, and affiliates will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from or relating to your use of or inability to use ScrollCheckpoint.

This includes, where permitted by law, damages resulting from interruption of service, loss of data, third-party services, device or operating-system behavior, or your reliance on ScrollCheckpoint functionality.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, our total liability for claims arising from or relating to ScrollCheckpoint will not exceed the amount you paid to ScrollCheckpoint during the twelve months immediately preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

12. Termination and Account Deletion

You may stop using ScrollCheckpoint at any time.

Where account deletion functionality is available, you may request deletion of your ScrollCheckpoint account and associated personal information.

We may suspend or terminate access to ScrollCheckpoint if you materially violate these Terms, misuse the service, create security risks, or where suspension or termination is otherwise reasonably necessary to protect ScrollCheckpoint, its users, or third parties.

The handling and deletion of personal information following account deletion are described in our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as ScrollCheckpoint develops, our features change, applicable laws change, or platform requirements change.

If we make material changes, we will provide notice where required, which may include notice through ScrollCheckpoint, our website, or email.

The "Last updated" date at the top of these Terms indicates when they were most recently revised.

Your continued use of ScrollCheckpoint after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms to the extent permitted by applicable law.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States and applicable state law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable consumer protection laws require otherwise.

Nothing in these Terms limits rights that you may have under mandatory consumer protection laws applicable to you.
