ScrollCheckpoint is designed to help make screen time more intentional through scroll alarms and checkpoints.

This Privacy Policy explains what information ScrollCheckpoint collects, how the app uses that information, how certain device permissions work, when information is shared with service providers, and the choices available to you.

1. The Short Version

ScrollCheckpoint needs certain information to provide its core features.

Depending on your device and the features you enable, ScrollCheckpoint may process information about apps you select for ScrollCheckpoint, scroll alarms you create, checkpoint activities you select and complete, and your ScrollCheckpoint history.

On Android, if you voluntarily enable the Accessibility Service, ScrollCheckpoint can identify when an app covered by your ScrollCheckpoint settings comes into the foreground. This allows us to present the ScrollCheckpoint intervention and associate a subsequent scroll-alarm session with the relevant app.

If you proceed to create a scroll alarm, information about that ScrollCheckpoint session may be stored in your history, including the relevant app, the scroll-alarm duration, the checkpoint category or activity you selected, and related session information.

On iOS, ScrollCheckpoint uses Apple's Family Controls and related Screen Time technologies, including Managed Settings. Apple's system uses privacy-preserving representations of applications, categories, and web domains selected through its Family Controls interfaces. ScrollCheckpoint uses these system capabilities to apply its checkpoint experience to selections you authorize.

Most importantly, ScrollCheckpoint does not use these features to read what you do inside third-party apps.

We do not use Android Accessibility Service or Apple's Family Controls to read your private messages, posts, comments, direct messages, passwords, keystrokes, photos, videos, or other content inside third-party apps.

We do not sell your personal information.

2. How App Access and Checkpoints Work

ScrollCheckpoint operates differently on Android and iOS because each operating system provides different technical capabilities.

2.1 Android

On Android, ScrollCheckpoint may use Android's Accessibility Service when you voluntarily enable the service and grant the required permission.

The Accessibility Service allows ScrollCheckpoint to receive system accessibility events that can identify when an app comes into the foreground.

ScrollCheckpoint uses this functionality to determine whether an app covered by your ScrollCheckpoint settings has been brought to the foreground and to present the ScrollCheckpoint intervention.

When you attempt to access a covered app, ScrollCheckpoint may display a checkpoint screen prompting you to go to ScrollCheckpoint and set a scroll alarm.

If you choose to proceed, ScrollCheckpoint can use the relevant app information so that you do not have to manually select the app again when configuring your scroll alarm.

For example, if ScrollCheckpoint identifies Facebook as the relevant app and you choose to set a scroll alarm, ScrollCheckpoint can open the alarm configuration for that session with Facebook already associated with it.

If you do not proceed to set a scroll alarm, the Android intervention lasts approximately 30 seconds, after which you may continue to the selected app.

When a ScrollCheckpoint session is created, information associated with that session may be stored in your ScrollCheckpoint history as described below.

You can disable ScrollCheckpoint's Accessibility Service permission through your Android device settings. Disabling it may prevent features that depend on foreground-app detection from working.

What Android Accessibility Service Is Not Used For

ScrollCheckpoint does not use its Accessibility Service functionality for the purpose of reading the content displayed inside other apps.

We do not use it to collect your:

• private messages or direct messages
• social media posts or comments
• passwords
• keystrokes
• photos or videos viewed inside another app
• conversations
• search activity inside another app
• content of your social media feeds

The Accessibility Service is used for the limited ScrollCheckpoint functionality described above.

2.2 iOS

On iOS, ScrollCheckpoint uses Apple's Family Controls and related Screen Time technologies, including Managed Settings, when you voluntarily authorize and configure these features.

Apple provides system interfaces through which you can select applications or categories to which you want ScrollCheckpoint functionality applied.

Apple's Family Controls framework uses privacy-preserving representations, including opaque tokens, for applications, categories, and web domains selected through these system interfaces.

ScrollCheckpoint uses the authorized selections and Apple's Screen Time technologies to apply its app-management functionality.

When ScrollCheckpoint's iOS functionality is enabled, selected apps may be covered by an iOS-managed shield.

To access a selected app through the ScrollCheckpoint experience, you may be required to return to ScrollCheckpoint and establish an active scroll alarm.

Unlike Android, waiting for approximately 30 seconds does not automatically bypass the ScrollCheckpoint requirement on iOS.

ScrollCheckpoint does not use Apple's Family Controls or related Screen Time frameworks to read the contents of your messages, posts, comments, passwords, photos, videos, feeds, or other content inside selected applications.

The exact information available to ScrollCheckpoint through these frameworks is determined by Apple's privacy-preserving Screen Time APIs.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account Information

When you create a ScrollCheckpoint account, we may collect information such as:

• your name
• email address
• authentication information

Passwords are handled through our authentication infrastructure and are not stored by ScrollCheckpoint as readable plain text.

If you use a supported third-party sign-in provider, we receive the account information that provider makes available to us according to your authorization and the provider's policies.

3.2 Scroll Alarm and Session Information

When you use ScrollCheckpoint, we may collect and store information necessary to operate your scroll alarms, checkpoints, and history.

Depending on the platform and how you use the app, this may include:

• the app associated with a ScrollCheckpoint session
• scroll-alarm duration
• date and time associated with the session
• checkpoint category selected
• specific checkpoint activity selected
• checkpoint completion information
• other information necessary to display and maintain your ScrollCheckpoint history

For example, your history may show that a ScrollCheckpoint session was associated with Facebook, that you configured a 10-minute scroll alarm, and that you selected a Learning checkpoint such as General Knowledge.

This information describes your activity within ScrollCheckpoint and your ScrollCheckpoint session. It does not mean ScrollCheckpoint records what you viewed, posted, searched for, wrote, or communicated inside Facebook or another third-party app.

3.3 Android Foreground-App Information

When Android Accessibility Service functionality is enabled, ScrollCheckpoint processes information indicating which relevant app has come into the foreground.

This information is used to determine whether to present the ScrollCheckpoint intervention and, when applicable, associate the relevant app with the ScrollCheckpoint session you create.

Information associated with completed or created ScrollCheckpoint sessions may subsequently appear in your ScrollCheckpoint history and be stored through our backend provider.

We do not use Android foreground-app information to build advertising profiles or determine the content you consume inside another application.

3.4 iOS Family Controls Information

When you authorize ScrollCheckpoint's Family Controls functionality on iOS, Apple's system allows you to select applications or categories through its privacy-preserving interfaces.

Apple's Family Controls framework represents selections using opaque values or tokens. ScrollCheckpoint uses those authorized selections with Apple's related Screen Time technologies to provide the functionality you request.

The availability and technical operation of these features are controlled in part by Apple's operating system and APIs.

3.5 Checkpoint and Scroll Journal Content

When you complete certain checkpoints, you may choose to create content such as:

• Scroll Journal entries
• reflections
• gratitude entries
• goals
• other responses you intentionally submit

This content is associated with your ScrollCheckpoint account so that you can access the features that depend on it.

Your Scroll Journal content belongs to you.

We do not use your private Scroll Journal content to build advertising profiles or sell it to third parties.

3.6 Subscription and Purchase Information

ScrollCheckpoint uses RevenueCat to help manage subscriptions and purchases made through the Apple App Store and Google Play billing systems.

We may receive information necessary to determine your subscription status and provide the features included with your subscription.

ScrollCheckpoint does not directly receive or store your full payment-card details.

3.7 Device and Technical Information

ScrollCheckpoint and our service providers may process limited technical information necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the service.

Depending on the service and platform, this may include information such as:

• device type
• operating system
• app version
• technical identifiers
• diagnostic or service information

3.8 Advertising Information

ScrollCheckpoint may display advertising through Google AdMob to eligible free-tier users.

Premium subscribers may receive an ad-free experience according to their subscription.

Where ScrollCheckpoint uses non-personalized advertising, ads are not selected based on your Scroll Journal entries or the content you consume inside third-party apps.

Google and its advertising technologies may process certain device, advertising, approximate-location, consent, fraud-prevention, and ad-performance information according to Google's applicable policies and the user's device/privacy settings.

ScrollCheckpoint does not provide your Scroll Journal content to AdMob for advertising.

3.9 Checkpoint Content Generation

ScrollCheckpoint may use the OpenAI API to generate certain checkpoint content, such as questions, prompts, explanations, or activities.

Where this functionality is used, ScrollCheckpoint is designed not to send your private Scroll Journal entries, passwords, private social media content, or unnecessary identifying account information to OpenAI merely to generate general checkpoint content.

The information transmitted depends on the particular feature being used and is limited to what is reasonably necessary to generate the requested content.

4. How We Use Information

We may use information collected through ScrollCheckpoint to:

• create and manage your account
• provide ScrollCheckpoint's core functionality
• identify relevant apps on Android when you have enabled Accessibility Service
• implement authorized app-management functionality on iOS
• configure and operate scroll alarms
• provide checkpoint activities
• maintain your ScrollCheckpoint history
• save content you intentionally add to your Scroll Journal
• manage subscriptions
• provide eligible advertising
• maintain security and prevent abuse
• troubleshoot technical problems
• respond to support requests
• comply with legal obligations
• communicate important service information
• send marketing or product communications where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law

We do not sell your Scroll Journal entries or personal information to data brokers.

We do not use the contents of your Scroll Journal to create advertising profiles.

5. How Information Is Shared

We use service providers to operate ScrollCheckpoint. They may process information only as necessary for the services they provide and according to their applicable agreements and privacy practices.

Supabase

Supabase provides backend, database, and authentication infrastructure. Information stored through Supabase may include account information and ScrollCheckpoint information such as scroll-alarm sessions, associated apps, checkpoint selections, history information, and Scroll Journal content.

RevenueCat

RevenueCat helps manage subscriptions and purchases. It may process purchase, subscription, product, device, and related identifiers necessary to determine subscription status and manage entitlements.

Google AdMob

Google AdMob may be used to provide advertising to eligible free-tier users. Information processed by Google in connection with advertising is subject to Google's applicable privacy practices and consent requirements. ScrollCheckpoint does not provide your Scroll Journal entries to AdMob for advertising.

OpenAI

ScrollCheckpoint may use OpenAI's API to generate checkpoint questions, prompts, explanations, and other activity content. We limit the information transmitted for this purpose to information reasonably necessary to provide the applicable generation feature.

Apple and Google

Apple and Google provide the operating systems, app distribution, payment infrastructure, permissions, and platform technologies on which ScrollCheckpoint relies. On iOS, relevant functionality includes Apple's Family Controls, Managed Settings, and related Screen Time technologies. On Android, relevant functionality may include Android Accessibility Service.

Legal and Business Requirements

We may disclose information if reasonably necessary to:

• comply with applicable law or valid legal process
• protect the rights, safety, or security of ScrollCheckpoint, our users, or others
• investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents
• complete a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to applicable privacy requirements

We do not sell your personal information.

6. Data Storage and Retention

ScrollCheckpoint uses service providers, including Supabase, to store information required to provide the service.

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide ScrollCheckpoint, maintain your account and history, meet legal obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the service.

Different categories of information may have different retention periods.

When you request account deletion, we will delete or de-identify personal information associated with your account as required by applicable law and according to our technical and legal retention obligations.

Some information may remain temporarily in backups, security records, transaction records, or other systems where retention is reasonably necessary or legally required.

7. Your Choices and Controls

Android

You decide whether to enable Android Accessibility Service for ScrollCheckpoint.

You can revoke this permission through your Android device settings.

If you revoke it, ScrollCheckpoint features that depend on detecting a relevant foreground app may stop working.

iOS

You decide whether to authorize and configure ScrollCheckpoint's Family Controls functionality.

You choose the applications or categories to which you want the functionality applied through Apple's provided interfaces.

If authorization is revoked or selections are changed, features dependent on those permissions or selections may stop functioning.

Account and Privacy Choices

Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to:

• request access to your personal information
• request correction of inaccurate information
• request deletion of your information
• request a portable copy of certain information
• object to or restrict certain processing
• opt out of eligible marketing communications
• exercise other privacy rights available in your jurisdiction

8. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information handled through ScrollCheckpoint.

These measures may include encryption, authentication controls, access controls, and security protections provided by our infrastructure providers.

However, no internet transmission, application, database, or electronic storage system can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

9. Children's Privacy

ScrollCheckpoint is not directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If we learn that personal information has been collected from a child under 13 in circumstances where collection is not legally permitted, we will take appropriate steps to delete it.

10. Privacy Rights and International Users

Privacy rights vary depending on where you live.

Where applicable, we will honor rights provided under relevant privacy laws, including rights concerning access, correction, deletion, portability, restriction, objection, and certain opt-outs.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Similar Jurisdictions

Where applicable, users may have rights under the GDPR or similar privacy laws, including rights to access, correct, erase, restrict, object to certain processing, and receive certain personal information in a portable format.

Where required, our processing of personal information will rely on an applicable legal basis, such as providing the service you request, consent, compliance with legal obligations, or legitimate interests that are not overridden by your rights.

United States

Residents of certain U.S. states may have additional privacy rights under applicable state privacy laws.

These rights may include access, correction, deletion, portability, and rights concerning certain forms of data sharing, targeted advertising, or sale.

ScrollCheckpoint does not sell personal information as described in this policy.

We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights available to you under applicable law.

11. Third-Party Apps and Services

ScrollCheckpoint interacts with operating-system functionality and may be used in connection with third-party applications such as social media apps.

This Privacy Policy applies to ScrollCheckpoint.

It does not govern what Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, or another third-party application collects when you use its service.

Those services have their own privacy policies and data practices.

The fact that a third-party app is associated with a ScrollCheckpoint session does not mean ScrollCheckpoint receives the content you view or create inside that third-party service.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when ScrollCheckpoint's functionality, service providers, legal obligations, or privacy practices change.

When we make material changes, we will provide notice where required, which may include notification through the app, our website, or email.

The "Last updated" date at the top of this policy indicates when the policy was most recently revised.
