1. The Short Version

We do not keep a record of which apps you open or when. On Android, the moment you open a tracked app, your phone briefly tells ScrollCheckpoint so it can send you a notification reminding you to set a scroll alarm. That moment is not logged or stored anywhere. On iOS, ScrollCheckpoint has no way to detect when you open another app at all, so you set your scroll alarm manually. Either way, we never see what you did inside any app, and we never keep a history of app opens.

2. How ScrollCheckpoint Knows You Opened An App

How this works depends on which device you use.

On Android:

ScrollCheckpoint uses your device's built-in Accessibility Service to detect which app is currently in the foreground. Specifically, we use the accessibility service's window state change detection, which tells us the name of the app that just came to the foreground. We do not use accessibility permissions that would let us read on-screen content, capture text, log keystrokes, or control your device. This is the minimum permission level required to detect foreground app changes, and we do not request or use anything beyond it.

When ScrollCheckpoint detects that you've opened a tracked app, like Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube, it does not automatically start a scroll alarm or checkpoint on your behalf. Instead, it sends you a notification reminding you that you haven't set one, something like “You forgot to set your scroll alarm, pick a checkpoint before you keep scrolling.” You choose whether to act on that notification. Nothing is started, tracked, or enforced without your action.

On iOS:

Apple does not allow any app to monitor which other apps are open in real time. There is no equivalent to Android's Accessibility Service available to third party developers. Because of this, ScrollCheckpoint cannot detect when you open Instagram, TikTok, or another tracked app on iOS, and cannot send you a reminder notification when you do.

Instead, iOS users manually open ScrollCheckpoint and set their scroll alarm before or when they plan to use another app. The checkpoint and scroll alarm work the same way once set, you just start them yourself, since there's no automatic detection to prompt you.

What we never do, on either platform:

We never see your screen. We never read messages, posts, comments, DMs, or any content inside any app. We do not know what you watched, who you talked to, or what you posted. On Android, the only signal we receive is the name of the app and the time it entered the foreground, and that signal is not stored. On iOS, we only know when you manually start a scroll alarm.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account Information

When you create a ScrollCheckpoint account, we collect your name, email address, and a securely encrypted password. If you choose to sign in through a third party service, we receive only the basic profile information that service shares with us.

3.2 App Usage Signals

ScrollCheckpoint does not record which apps you open or when you open them. On Android, when you open a tracked app, that moment is used only to trigger a one time notification prompting you to set a scroll alarm. This detection happens in real time and is not saved, logged, or stored by ScrollCheckpoint in any form. On iOS, this detection does not happen at all, since Apple does not allow apps to monitor other apps in the background. iOS users set their scroll alarm manually, and there is no detection event to record either way.

What we do store is what you choose to set up yourself: the app you select to track (for example Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, or a custom app you name), the activity category and specific activity you pick, how long you want to scroll before your alarm rings, and which checkpoint you choose to complete. This is information you actively enter, not information we observe.

3.3 Checkpoint and Scroll Journal Content

When you complete a checkpoint, anything you write, such as a journal entry, a gratitude reflection, or a goal you set, is saved to your private Scroll Journal. This content belongs to you. We do not read it, analyze it for advertising purposes, or share it with anyone.

3.4 Payment Information

ScrollCheckpoint uses RevenueCat to process subscriptions and purchases through the Apple App Store and Google Play billing systems. We do not directly handle, see, or store your payment card details.

3.5 Device Information

Supabase, our backend provider, may receive basic technical information such as device type and operating system version to support app functionality.

3.6 Advertising Information

ScrollCheckpoint shows ads through Google AdMob to users on the free tier only. If you are a paying subscriber, you do not see ads and AdMob does not run on your account. Ads shown are non-personalized, meaning they are not based on your activity, interests, or app usage. AdMob may still receive limited technical information needed to display an ad and measure basic performance, such as general device type and approximate location at a country or region level. AdMob does not receive your Scroll Journal content, your app usage signals, or any personal account information.

3.7 Third-Party Content Generation

ScrollCheckpoint uses the OpenAI API to generate checkpoint activity content across all checkpoint categories, including mindfulness, productivity, fitness, and every other category available in the app. This includes generating prompts, questions, and activity content for you to complete. No personal information, account data, journal entries, or app usage data is sent to OpenAI. The API only generates content, it does not receive anything about you.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use the information above to operate the app, run your scroll alarms and checkpoints, save your Scroll Journal, process subscription payments through RevenueCat, display non-personalized ads to free tier users through AdMob, respond to support requests, and send you product updates if you have opted in.

We never use your Scroll Journal content, app usage data, or personal information to build advertising profiles or sell to third parties.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share user data only with the following third parties:

Supabase — Backend and Data Storage
Supabase hosts our app's backend and stores the information you provide, such as your account details, scroll alarm setups, and Scroll Journal entries.

RevenueCat — Subscription and Purchase Processing
RevenueCat manages subscriptions and purchases through the Apple App Store and Google Play billing systems. It receives purchase and subscription information needed to validate and manage your subscription.

Google AdMob — Advertising (Free Tier Only)
AdMob displays non-personalized ads to users on the free tier. Paying subscribers never see ads and are excluded from AdMob entirely. AdMob operates under its own privacy policy, available at Google's Privacy & Terms site.

OpenAI — Checkpoint Content Generation
We use the OpenAI API to generate checkpoint activity content across all checkpoint categories. No personal information, account data, journal entries, or app usage data is ever sent to OpenAI as part of this process.

We may also share data when required by law, such as responding to a valid legal request, or in the event of a merger or acquisition, in which case your data would be covered by an equivalent privacy commitment.

6. Your Choices

You control ScrollCheckpoint entirely through what you set up. You choose which app you want to scroll (Instagram, TikTok, Reddit, or a custom app you add), pick a category and activity, set how long you want to scroll before your alarm rings, and choose a checkpoint to complete. There is no background tracking to turn on or off. If you do not set up a scroll alarm, ScrollCheckpoint does not monitor anything.

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to delete your account and associated data, and opt out of marketing emails at any time. If you request account deletion, your data is deleted immediately. We do not retain a copy after your request is processed.

7. Data Security

We use industry standard encryption and access controls to protect your information. No system is completely immune to risk, but we work to keep your data secure at every layer, from your device to our servers.

8. Children's Privacy

ScrollCheckpoint is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will remove it.

9. Regulatory Compliance & Your Rights

We design ScrollCheckpoint with privacy principles in mind and provide access, deletion, and opt-out rights where applicable. Where required by law, users may request access, correction, deletion, or restriction of their personal data.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this policy as ScrollCheckpoint grows. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect.
